Opening up the online gambling market to competition

It has taken almost three years, but France has finally amended its online gambling legislation. Law n°2010-476 of May 12, 2010 brings to an end the monopoly enjoyed by the PMU, the French lottery group (“la Française des jeux”) and the casinos.

In France, gambling, and in particular online gambling, is illegal. Three entities benefit however from an exemption
to this rule: the PMU ("Pari Mutuel Urbain") for horse racing bets, the casinos for gambling tables and slot machines,
and the French lottery group called "La Française des jeux" which holds a monopoly on lottery games.

No smoking a work-New regulations in France

From February 1st, 2007, smoking is banned from all work places (except from pubs and bars, casinos, gambling clubs, tobacco shops, night clubs, hotels and restaurants for which the ban on smoking will be applicable as from January 1st, 2008).

Reduction on capital gain tax for individuals

The current capital gain tax rate on sale of shares for individuals is 16% to which 11% social security taxes shall be added to reach a global rate of 27%. The law has reduced this global rate down to 11%, subject to a holding period.
